Hi, I’m Dr. Katrina Allison ND

I help performance minded women unlock their potential by optimizing their hormone health

My Approach

Active women have unique needs. They deserve a doctor who understands.

Historically, active women have been treated just the same as sedentary women at the doctor’s office.

  • They are told to eat a healthy diet, low in fat and low in sugar.

  • They are told their iron is a bit low, but they’ll be fine.

  • They are considered “low risk” due to their active lifestyle, so their concerns are waved away.

But when it comes to avid exercisers and high-performance athletes, the same rules do not apply.

  • You need a nutrition plan that fuels your hours of training

  • You need higher iron levels due to increased demand on your body

  • You need a clinician who understands how your activity affects every aspect of your health and wellbeing

My Journey

I know what it feels like when hormones are out of whack.

Running at my best, it was all too easy to ignore the signs that my health was deteriorating - I lost my period, experienced severe insomnia, and was in a constant battle with iron deficiency.

When inevitably, I got injured, I wondered why none of my healthcare providers or coaches had intervened. The answers I was offered closely resembled “this is just part of being a female athlete”. This didn’t sit right with me.

Naturopathic Medicine came into my life at just the right time, a welcome distraction from my derailed athletic career. This was the first time I was introduced to the concept of hormonal wellness. I quickly found out that hormones (or lack thereof) were at the root of all my previous struggles.

Since then I’ve learned to love my hormones. Thanks to my own hormone-healing journey, I’ve been able to continue running at a high level into my 30s, and am happier and healthier than ever.

Who I work with

Find out if we’re the right fit.

I work primarily with female patients ages 13-60, to provide them with healthcare that is tailored to support the female experience.

Some of the concerns I focus on in my practice include:

  • Period & hormone concerns (absent/irregular periods, PCOS, hypothalamic amenorrhea, painful periods, heavy periods, teen periods, perimenopause)

  • Mood concerns (PMS/PMDD, depression, anxiety, insomnia)

  • Female athlete health (athletic performance, sport nutrition, overtraining, relative-energy deficiency in sport (RED-S), fertility & perinatal health in athletes & return to exercise postpartum)

  • Nutrition concerns (Nutritional deficiencies, eating disorders, vegan/vegetarian diets)

I recognize that people are whole beings with a multitude of factors affecting their health. If you don’t see your concern listed here and are wondering if I can help, please reach out.
