The complete self-paced program to help you heal from hypothalamic amenorrhea.

Get your period back in 6 steps… even if you’re an athlete in an active training program, have a competitive performance goal, or can’t stand the thought of quitting the gym.

Let me guess…

  • You're an athlete or fitness-focused individual, on the cusp of achieving the goals you’ve always dreamed of.

  • You push your body to the limits regularly, and you’ve come a long way through hard work and dedication

  • You’re constantly looking for the next step to bring you to the next level

There’s just one thing that’s been gnawing at you…

“I haven't had my period in months

and deep down I know that can’t be good for my health.

I know I need to do something about it,

but how can I get my period back without sacrificing

all the athletic progress I’ve worked so hard for?”

…sound familiar?

You’ve seen your doctor

but they haven’t had much to offer except the birth control pill

You’re worried you’ll have to stop training

as friends and competitors have done when struggling with the same issues

You're not trying to have kids any time soon

so part of you thinks you can get away with shoving this under the rug a little longer…

You’ve tried to handle this issue on your own

with attempts to eat more and fuel your body well, but each time you end up going back to the way you were eating before

HARD TRUTH:

Without a regular period, your health and performance are a

ticking time bomb.

Athletes with absent cycles

experience stress fractures

at 2-4x the rate of

athletes with regular periods.

Cycling athletes consistently

report better mental health

and well-being than those

lacking their cycles.

Regular periods are associated with

larger performance

improvements when athletes

undergo the same training.

Recovering regular periods

can reverse negative cardiovascular

effects of chronically

low estrogen levels.

 Imagine if…

Your period showed up monthly, with no fuss - a clear signal that your body’s energy stores and hormones are in balance

You could stay healthy all the way until race day, avoiding those annoying injuries that always pop up at the worst time

You no longer felt cold all the time, could sleep through the night and your libido rebounded from non-existent

You knew that you were fuelling your body well, and could let go of the stress & restrictive spirals that plague your food decisions

You felt strong and consistent in your training instead of bonking frequently and having off performances out of nowhere

You finally understood your hormones and felt in sync with the monthly ebb and flow, instead of fighting it

Introducing:

In this course, I peel back the curtains and show you exactly how to:

Get the proper assessment and the explanation you deserve for why you are missing your period

Create your unique recovery plan, and commit to seeing it through

Overcome food hang-ups, body image barriers, and fuel your body like an athlete

Harness the power of your hormones to unlock your best performance and your best self

The Period Recovery Project is an actionable, self-paced course that arms athletes & active women (like you!) with the tools to heal your hormones, regain your period, and recover from hypothalamic amenorrhea.

Sneak Peak into to The Period Recovery Project

What’s inside

Module 1: Identify

Gain insight into the physiology that affects menstrual cycles, and the various explanations for why your period may be M.I.A. This isn’t a boring biology lesson, it’s the foundation for finding the solution to your cycle.

Once you understand your unique starting-point, you’ll be able to reflect on your:

  • Cycle history: Learn how your past periods can explain why your period ultimately disappeared.

  • Previous contraceptive use: Get the low-down on how the pill, IUD, implant or injection can affect your cycle

  • Energy balance: Uncover what often goes on behind the scenes for those without a period - a mismatch between energy output and energy intake.

  • Testing strategy: Understand the key tests that you need to know definitively why your period is missing.

By the end of module one you’ll walk away with:

A clear answer to the burning question of why your period is missing.

Module 2: Adapt

You’ve got an idea of how you got here, but now it’s time to take stock of what’s standing in the way of your recovery: stress. In this module, we’re not just doing breathing exercises and setting up our diffusers. We’re diving deep - not only into mental emotional stress, but physiological stress.

Once you understand that our bodies perceive certain key situations as stressful, (hint: it’s not just when you’re stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic), you’ll be able to:

  • Identify hidden sources of stress in your life, and create a plan to eliminate them

  • Create a recovery routine that turns down the volume on stress from exercise

  • Leverage your sleep as the ultimate stress-squashing tool using our Steady Sleep Secret.

By the end of module two you’ll walk away with:

Your custom stress-management strategy.

Module 3: Nourish

Time to step into the kitchen with our registered dietitian Sandra Kilmartin. This is the module where you will learn how to fuel your body in a way that heals your hormones.

  • You’ll learn not only the WHY, but the HOW of nourishing your body, so that you never stare into the fridge feeling paralyzed, again.

  • Learn exactly how successful athletes and fitness queens need to feed their bodies differently than their sedentary peers

  • Unpack how to get enough energy (without counting calories or weighing your meals)

  • Understand the roles of the macronutrients and how to customize what you need based on your sport

  • Avoid common pitfalls and fad diet trends that more often flop than flourish

By the end of module three you’ll walk away with:

A fool-proof framework for creating your no-restriction nutrition plan

Module 4: Empower

Now that you know what the pathway to recovery looks like, you’ll begin to understand the life-changing benefits of taking the first few steps.

There is no time to waste, as lacking your period affects the health of your whole body. In this module you’ll learn the connection between:

  • Your period and your bone health: understand why estrogen is our bone’s best friend

  • Your period and mental health: explore how regaining your period may be the key to banishing anxiety and low mood

  • Your period and your libido: breakdown how desire for intimacy naturally rebounds when hormones are balanced

  • Your period and heart health: unpack how regulating your cycle is essential for your ticker - both now and for years to come

  • Your period and performance: take a glance at the research demonstrating that athletes with regular periods perform better

By the end of module four you’ll walk away with:

An unshakeable assurance that recovering your period is the BEST thing you can do for your health and wellbeing

Module 5: Regulate

Next, you’ll learn to track your progress on your road to recovery. The goal is to identify the subtle signs showing you’re on the right track. This way, you’ll be 110% committed to your recovery, knowing that your hard work has not been in vain.

We’ll dive into understanding your hormones on a whole new level:

  • Learn to track your basal body temperature to identify signs of hormone fluctuations

  • Practice identifying cervical mucous changes that give us clues as to whether your body has started to ovulate again

  • Utilize insider tools to make this process easier: wearable temperature tracking devices, cycle tracking apps, and at-home hormone testing options

By the end of module five you’ll walk away with:

Your own progress-monitoring tool kit, with clear milestones to check off on the way.

Module 6: Resilience

You’ve come such a far way and your body is paying you back in dividends. You know you’ll need a plan to keep this momentum going.

This is where you’ll create a back-slide-busting plan for continued resilience. We’ll trash the temptation to go back to the way you were doing things before by:

  • Addressing any remaining body image booby traps that threaten to derail your progress

  • Heal your relationship with food & exercise once and for all

  • Generate the type of expansive self-confidence that doesn’t rely on your sport, your appearance or your waist-size

  • Anchor your reasons for recovery front and center

  • Connect with our Period Recovery Project community to stay accountable to your goals.

By the end of module six you’ll walk away with:

Your path to recovery entirely laid out, with the complete tool kit to check off every single benchmark to your first bleed.

Meet the speakers

Naturopathic Physician, long-distance runner (recently, sub 2:38 marathoner!), and wanna-be chef.

I’m here to make getting your period back the most fulfilling accomplishment you’ve ever achieved.

How do I know? Because, real talk — I’ve done it myself.

Recovering from hypothalamic amenorrhea was the hardest, most meaningful, most life-altering thing I’ve ever been through.

I want you to experience life on the other side of HA, without the hurdles and heartbreak I experienced. That’s why I created The Period Recovery Project.

The Host

✺ Hi, I’m Dr. Katrina Allison, ND

  • Dr. Katrina Allison is a naturopathic physician and long-distance runner in North Vancouver, BC, with a special interest in female athlete healthcare. As a runner, Katrina competed at a collegiate and then international level while at the University of Guelph studying Biomedical Sciences.

During her early career as an athlete, Katrina became extremely familiar with the negative health outcomes that occur all too frequently in women’s sport. While experiencing extreme pressure to perform, she restricted her food intake, couldn’t sleep, and completely lost her period for years on end. It wasn't until she sustained a severe stress fracture in her foot that the full extent of the damage to her body became painfully clear.

Perplexed by how she had reached this point, Katrina realized that despite her biomedical training, she had never found the right moment to address her health issues. No one on her care team emphasized the urgency of regaining her period, and there was always another race, another season, pushing her to postpone her recovery. The medical team around her had failed to sound the alarm until it was too late.

Yet, amidst the setback, there was a silver lining. This career-derailing injury paved the way for a new passion. With her future in running uncertain, Katrina decided to pursue a career in Naturopathic Medicine. She instantly aligned with the holistic approach and immersed herself in learning about the interconnectedness of stress, hormones, and the female body.

Katrina couldn't help but wonder how different her varsity running career might have been if she had possessed this knowledge earlier. Since then, it has become her mission and clinical focus to help active women and girls maintain their health, excel in their performance, and truly thrive both on and off the field.

Since graduating from her formal education, Katrina has continually refined her skills through numerous continuing education courses in sports medicine, eating disorders, hormone therapy, and more. She is recognized as an authority on hypothalamic amenorrhea in her profession and has had the honour of presenting a research review and clinical guideline to her naturopathic physician colleagues across North America.

Sport-focused dietitian, middle distance runner and cat-mom to Midnight.

In her practice, Sandra has witnessed the effectiveness of nutrition education in helping people with hypothalamic amenorrhea regain their periods.

Navigating the wealth of online nutrition information can be exhausting. Sandra is here to ensure your nutrition learnings are practical, evidence-based, and sustainable.

Sandra hopes you walk away from The Period Recovery Project knowing how to fuel your body to restore your health and continue enjoying activities you love.

Guest Speaker

✺ Meet Sandra Kilmartin, RD

  • Sandra is a Squamish-based registered sports dietitian, endurance athlete, and founder of No Sweat Nutrition. Sandra obtained her bachelor’s of Science in Food, Nutrition, and Health while running for the varsity track and field team at the University of British Columbia.

Sandra always had a special interest in sports nutrition but never thought she would make it her career. While working as a hospital dietitian and continuing to run at a high level, Sandra noticed a gap in sports nutrition services in BC. Being immersed in the running community, Sandra often heard athletes yearning to work with a sports nutrition professional who had experience as a competitive athlete.

Sandra also started to pay more attention to her nutrition and experienced firsthand the transformative impact it can have on athletic performance and daily life. Who knew you could get through a long run without bonking and have enough energy to tackle the day ahead by fuelling properly?

The call to become a sports dietitian became too loud to ignore. Despite the lack of formal certification requirements for specializing in sports nutrition in Canada, Sandra sought to further her education to provide her clients with the highest level of knowledge and expertise. In 2022, Sandra completed her sports nutrition diploma through the International Olympic Committee.

Sandra then started her private practice in sports nutrition, No Sweat Nutrition, where she is grateful to work with athletes of all ages and abilities on their unique nutrition goals. Sandra has a special interest in endurance sports and Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (REDs) prevention and recovery. In her ongoing quest to be the best nutrition resource to her community, Sandra is currently enrolled in a year-long eating disorders training so that she can support the unfortunately high number of athletes affected by eating disorders.

✺ Frequently asked questions ✺

  • Hypothalamic Amenorrhea (or, 'HA') is when your period goes away because the brain shuts down signaling due to under-eating, stress, weight changes, or excessive exercise. This is the most common reason why people with previously regular periods, lose their periods (other than pregnancy or birth control methods).

  • If you are missing your period, without a known explanation such as PCOS, pregnancy, contraception, or menopause - you are a good fit for the course. Hypothalmaic amenorrhea is one of the most common causes of secondary and primary amenorrhea (meaning you had a period before, and now you’ve lost it OR you’ve never had a period at all). The course covers how to discuss testing and diagnosis with your care provider so you can get some more insight on your specific scenario.

  • While you can be on the pill or IUD and experiencing hypothalamic amenorrhea, loss of menstruation is sometimes a normal side effect of some contraceptives. The program includes a lot of education about when it is normal vs abnormal to not get a period, and how to figure out why your period is missing - this information will be valuable for you. If you are not sure, it’s best to speak with your health care provider before beginning the course.

  • No, this is a self-guided educational course that does not include direct advice or communication from Dr. Katrina. If you would prefer to receive individualized care, Dr. Katrina is accepting patients in her practice for one-on-one visits. Due to the regulation of Naturopathic Doctors, Dr. Katrina can only accept residents of British Columbia as patients in her one-on-one practice.

  • There are so many factors that go into regaining your period, and we cannot guarantee you will get your period back as this depends on your unique health circumstances and the changes you are able to make as part of the program. That being said, Dr. Katrina has found in her experience that those who have tried everything, often have missed some of the foundational steps in recovering their period, or didn't stick with their efforts long enough. We believe even those who feel they've tried it all will benefit from The Period Recovery Project.

  • Absolutely. You do not need to be a competitive athlete to benefit from this course. While exercise is a factor for many women missing their period, it is only one of many. In addition to information that pertains to exercise, we also cover nutrition, stress, sleep and other lifestyle components that will pertain to you regardless of your level of activity!

P.S. Here’s the truth: if you want different results, you need to do something different. Make a decision right now to get different results.
